School on Cultural Institutions
IMAGINATION III was a two-week student school in Beirut, February 2012 under the theme “Cultural Institutions” in search for the synergy between Cultural Institutions and encouraging Civil Society. Through walks and sketching in the city, and through a public symposium and storytelling evening about Beirut’s present and past, the students recorded particulars, explored ideas and imagined visions for Cultural Institutions in Beirut under the sub-themes: City culture through the unplanned nightlife, Imagination in your neighbourhood, Cultural Institutions along Beirut River, Public spaces exchanging with layers of the city and Buildings as Civic Infrastructure. The students findings where manifested as 1:1 built installations, models, drawings and interventions showcased at a public opening.
35 architecture students participated from AUB, ALBA and LAU in Beirut, Lebanon; Damascus, Syria and Copenhagen, Denmark supported by 8 tutors and with more than 22 university lecturers, practicing architects, artists and local organizations sharing their knowledge through walks and talks.
IMAGINATION III was held in the St. Joseph Crypt - a crypt under a church in the area Monot in the center of Beirut.
